Coco Chanel was a shelter transfer into Tired Dog Rescue on 11/20/2025. She is a very beautiful Shih Tzu. Coco is 7-year-old Female, weighing in at a small 11 pounds.

Coco has shown to get along with other dogs. Both in her foster home, with two small dogs, and after noting she was up to date on all vaccinations, at the dog park with other dogs there.

It is unknown how she would be with cats as there are none in her foster family home. The same with kids, although she has been petted without incident by a young boy who is nonverbal autistic.

Coco has had some interaction with other humans since coming into TDR. She was very slow to warm up to either of her two senior humans. In the beginning, she looked fearful and ran when we attempt to pick her up. However, after a few days, she began to show signs of adapting. She has since become a very confident and loving member of the family, that includes two other dogs, that she loves being with more and more. She has shown to respond well to both males and females, with the closest being her foster parents.

Coco has been diagnosed being Heartworm Positive and will begin her treatment on 5 January 2026. She was also shown to have had previous lumbar issues with disks fused. As such, she should not be put into a situation where she would jump down, example from a couch or bed.

Coco had allowed a harness to be placed on her, with a leash. She resisted being led with the leash but has no issue with walking where she wants to walk. A work in progress. She wants to go where she wants to go and not be guided.

Coco has shown no interest in toys. Still very early. Also not showing interest in playing at all, not with toys or the other dogs. Life now is only about sleeping, eating, and going outside to use the bathroom. She has learned to use our dog door to go out to and back in from the back yard. However, she also will let you know when she has to go out.

Coco spent the first few days silent. No barking at all. However, she has opened up. The first barking was at the vacuum cleaner. Now when the other dogs are playing in another room, she will bark as if to say, you are too loud, I'm trying to sleep.

After almost two weeks, Coco has shown tremendous adaption to her new surroundings. This is typical for dogs, that have had a long term homelife, to adapt to a new situation. She is sure to adapt the same after adoption. Once adapted, she is showing signs of love toward both her human fosters and foster canine sisters.

Coco would fit into any home with or without other dogs. She is a great lap dog, however, she does not want to stay long, as she prefers to lay on her soft rug.

Coco has not shown any food aggression, in fact, all three dogs in the home have eaten together and dry dog food can be left out to graze as desired.

Other than the first few nights, Coco has not been kenneled, preferring instead to sleep through the night on her furry carpet in the kitchen.

Coco does not react to typical commands but does come when called to go outside.
